It's OSCAR time! That means...time for pirated screeners!

Hollywood needs to get used to the fact that bit torrenting is here to stay.  And now the pirates have figured out a way to scrub the watermarks on the Oscar nominee screening DVDs!  The irony of the Academy mailing out DVDs to it's members and then pirates scrubbing them and uploading them is not lost on me.  Normally you'd have to sneak a camera into a Russian movie theater but now the Academy is mailing out DVDs that can be scrubbed to remove the "secret" watermark encoding.  And, as this article notes, this is all happening AFTER the biggest pirate site, The Pirate Bay, was shut down.

Deal with it guys.  The pirates will find a way.  Regional encoding is going the way of the dodo bird.
